Some exciting news for our College communities regarding the possible acquisition of a parcel of land immediately to the south of our schools. The Brisbane City Council has accepted our letter of offer to acquire their Stafford depot, which is bordered by several streets including Broughton Rd, Wayland St, Lennon St, Hutchins St, Bradley Ave and Wood St.
This land will become a sporting and cultural precinct for our Colleges. This is a once-in-a lifetime educational investment that will benefit the tens of thousands of students who will attend Padua and Mount Alvernia now and into the future.
Over the next year, we will devise a master plan for the long-term future of this precinct. This process will include a consultation period to ensure that we consider all input for the best use of this land. In the short-term, this land will include playing fields and a base for our combined Franciscan Colleges Instrumental Programme.
With Council making plans to move their depot to a new base at Eagle Farm, our Colleges jointly provided an expression of interest for the land. Council’s Cabinet considered and then approved the offer. Brisbane City Councillors must now vote on the sale at their next public meeting. If the vote is passed, a contract would be drawn up for signing by the Colleges.
This opportunity has been made possible by more than 120 years of combined prudent financial management of Mount Alvernia and Padua Colleges. This has enabled us to be in a position to responsibly acquire this land.
We value the feedback of the College communities during our master plan process. Should you have any feedback or any enquiries, please email us at
